I ended up going to T-Mobile after Sprint repeatedly replied to my Better Business Bureau complaint with a form mail response over and over, and wouldn't fix the issue.

I guess they did fix the issue: Swap known good carrier, which requires a phone swap. :B

Virgin (despite now being a Sprint subsidiary) has been giving me good service for 5 years, and aside from an issue earlier this year when 3G went crazy, they've been great. I haven't tried Boost (another Sprint subsidiary), so I have no opinion on them. AT&T is a long-term horror story with several members of my family, most of whom keep getting screwed regarding the billing. T-Mobile is a decent provider, and judging from my mom's praises of them, they're pretty good.

Earlier this year, I read up on the Intercept because it was one of the two Android phones offered on Virgin Mobile. After finding horror story after horror story like yours, I'm glad I went with the Optimus V....

At least until the Motorola Triumph comes out this summer.

Kerry,

Welcome along.
Thanks for reading through that -- I admit, it is a long-winded post that actually took me several hours to compose throughout the week.
There were some minor edits to it that keep it clean enough that I can only hope someone at Sprint learns what's going on, and will perhaps learn what not to do with whatever customer base that they manage to keep.

As a hardware tech, I am fond of having spare machines laying around that I can plug things into and figure out what's going on. I think that's the biggest thing in this, too -- issue replication across multiple pieces of hardware and multiple versions of software that are not all identical.

It's why I think I'm just done at this point.

I've been out looking for one of those prepaid phones just to have a way to be called when I ditch this phone.

I'll spend the cash I saved on a Kindle or an Android tablet or summat -- the money saved on the bill alone would buy me a Kindle in two months.

Justin, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog on the pos Intercept. I basically went through the same scenario, only I started with the moment. Sprint really screwed me over, and I was a 10 year happy customer before. They finally let me out of my contract. I now have Verizon with a DroidX. I'll love this phone. I think I was the one that started the Sprint recall thread. I feel they owe me!

I haven't been as lucky on the smaller Chinese scooters: The stator doesn't recharge the battery so well, I've found in the case of both scooters I've owned, making either the Sunforce charger or the Battery Tender Junior a requirement, not an option.

I got no tools with it, either, so I have a GatorGrip unisocket, a phillips screwdriver, a crescent wrench, and a 5/8" deep socket just for the spark plug.

Speaking of jumper cables, I had been eyeballing these for a while. I like the idea of them -- they seem to be much lighter and not very bulky (weighs in at under half a pound), plus they make getting a jump from a passing motorist much easier when you can tell them all you need is their cigarette lighter socket for a few minutes to get a charge from, which is pretty easy to finagle, at least here.
If it had the Deltran style connector, it'd make jumping completely tool-less for me.
As is, I have to pull the floor mat and the cover from the battery, which isn't so bad, all things considered.

I also have one of those self-starting kits stowed away on my scooter -- it's tiny, but good to give me a few jumps if I need 'em.

(I just need to find a replacement fork for it now. :|)

I keep a lockable toolbox bolted to the back of my motorcycle. In it, I store my tools, registration and insurance information, and a plastic box with dividers in it, full of spare bolts, nuts, some wire, wire nuts, zip ties of various sizes, fuses... most everything necessary to produce an emergency fix on something to get home.

Pretty much every full motorcycle made in the past 20 years comes with a pouch that has every tool necessary to field strip the bike down to it's base components; though certainly not quickly! It works in a pinch, however, so generally, the only tools I'll pack on my motorcycle are things that make that process easier. A socket set, a few proper spanners, a pair of pliers; that generally does the trick.

Generally speaking, the only thing that causes a battery to drain on a proper motorcycle is either a malfunctioning generator or rider error (leaving keys in it, in the on position, which leaves all the lights on. Derp.) So I now have a Battery Tender Plus at home to restore the battery after such events. Jumper cables would be a handy thing to have for the times when derp has occurred, but they tend to be massively bulky (Especially because they have to be long to be useful) and that makes it hard to stow them out of the way.
